Unlocking the Sacred Recipe: How to Make Charnamrit at Home

Charnamrit, which is a holistic mixture used in the Hindu practices derives its name from the belief that it has been considered and appreciated as a sacred elixir received during religious ceremonies and used for blessings. Making Charnamrit at home requires a combination of components and the immateriality of ingredients, each holding a symbolic meaning in the spiritual world.

Ingredients:

  • Water: 1/2 cup
  • Milk: 1/2 cup
  • Curd (Yogurt): 2 tablespoons
  • Makhane (6-10 pieces)
  • Ghee (Clarified butter): 1 teaspoon
  • Honey: 2 tablespoons
  • Tulsi (Holy Basil) leaves: a few (optional)
  • Crushed dry fruits (almonds, raisins, cashews): for garnish (optional)

One should ensure that everything that is being used is both fresh and clean. Before we start mixing the ingredients, we should prepare Makhana by roasting it in a clean utensil. Once properly roasted, cut the each makhana into smaller pieces

Now to create the mixture, first take half cup of water, boil it to remove any impurities and once it cools, add Curd and talk cup of milk to produce a smooth blend. Enrich the blend with a tablespoon of ghee, and pour honey to it as sweetness. Adding Ghee symbolizes purity and auspiciousness. You can even add cleaned Tulsi leaves that will increase the sacredness appeal. 

Now add the pieces of makhana and stir the ingredients in a diligent and even manner, blending not only flavors but also symbolic items.

Garnish (Optional): Make a Chamarit more elevated by garnishing it with ground dry fruit like almonds, raisins, or cashews for the layered feel and richness. Many people also add Chironji to this.
