Chhath Puja, an old Hindu festival for Surya dev and Chhathi Maiya, honors life and support. Usually seen in Bihar, Jharkhand and some parts of UP, people respect the Sun. They ask for good luck and health blessings from it. The four-day event includes tough customs, such as not eating food and washing in rivers. People also provide gifts called arghya to the sun during its rising and setting times. People sing songs and prayers to thank the Sun for giving them energy and making things grow. Chhath Puja shows cleanliness, order and love for nature. It makes people closer to each other with respects needed on Earth from the universe’s powers of life up high in space.
